When you automate a parking gate, the first decision is how the barrier decides who to let in. In Bangladesh, two technologies dominate: ANPR (Automatic Number-Plate Recognition) cameras that read the car’s plate, and RFID tags that the car carries. Both open the boom without the driver stopping to show a card — but they work very differently, and the right choice depends on your building.

What ANPR does

An ANPR (also called LPR) camera photographs the vehicle as it approaches, reads the number plate, and checks it against your list of allowed vehicles. If the plate is registered, the barrier opens.

Strengths:

  • Nothing to fit inside the car — a vehicle is identified by the plate it already has.
  • Great for visitors and one-off vehicles: you can pre-register a plate for the day.
  • Every entry is photographed, giving you visual evidence of exactly which car came in and when.

Watch-outs:

  • Reading accuracy depends on plate condition, lighting and camera angle. A dirty, damaged or non-standard plate can be misread.
  • Two cars with look-alike plates need careful handling.

What RFID does

An RFID system fits a tag (a windshield sticker or card) to each authorised vehicle. A long-range reader at the gate “hears” the tag from several metres away and opens the barrier.

Strengths:

  • Extremely reliable and fast — the reader matches a unique tag ID, so there is almost no misread.
  • Works regardless of plate condition, weather or darkness.
  • Ideal for a fixed set of regular vehicles: residents, staff, company cars.

Watch-outs:

  • Every vehicle must be fitted with a tag, so it is less convenient for visitors.
  • A tag can, in theory, be moved to another car unless you also verify the plate.
